FSH, LH and P4

Hormonal Testing

Hormonal testing is blood work that is drawn between days 2-4 of a menstrual cycle, preferably on day 3. The blood work may include an estradiol level (Estrogen or E2 level), FSH, thyroid screening, and prolactin level. We will also draw prenatal screening labs (blood type, rubella, RPR, HbsAg, hepatitis C, HIV, hemoglobin level, and cystic fibrosis screening). Your physician may also do a test for chlamydia and gonorrhea, as well as a pap smear.

Serum Progesterone

Progesterone only appears in the blood after ovulation. The level of progesterone present depends upon the length of time that has occurred since ovulation and the quality of ovulation. Blood is drawn 5-8 days after the LH surge. Usually, this means around day 20-21 of the menstrual cycle. If you received hCG, your progesterone level will be drawn 5-7 days after hCG is given.
