Expanding Parenthood: How Fertility Clinics Support LGBTQIA+ Families

Posted on June 5, 2025 by Inception Fertility

At The Reproductive Medicine Group, we believe love defines family. As we celebrate Pride Month, we take time to reflect on the importance of inclusive fertility care—and honor the strength, resilience, and love that LGBTQIA+ individuals and couples bring to the journey of parenthood.

LGBTQIA+ families help expand traditional ideas of what it means to be a parent and remind us that families are built on connection, commitment, and care—not just biology.

Pride Month: A Time to Reflect and Reaffirm

Pride Month is more than a celebration—it’s an opportunity to recognize the work still needed to ensure equality in healthcare and fertility access. While progress has been made, LGBTQIA+ individuals often face barriers on their journey to parenthood. Our mission is to help break down those barriers and create a space where everyone feels welcome, supported, and empowered.

Fertility Options for LGBTQIA+ Individuals and Couples

Every journey is unique. Whether you’re a same-sex couple, a transgender individual, or exploring parenthood as a single LGBTQIA+ person, there are multiple paths to creating the family you envision. Here's a quick overview of common fertility treatment options we offer:

Reciprocal IVF

Many same-sex female couples use reciprocal IVF which allows one partner to provide the eggs and the other to carry the pregnancy. It’s a meaningful way for both partners to share the biological and emotional aspects of family building.

Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)

Often used with donor sperm, IUI involves placing sperm directly into the uterus at the time of ovulation. It’s a less invasive, lower-cost option that works well for individuals or couples where one partner plans to carry the pregnancy.

Gestational Surrogacy

For gay male couples, trans women, or any individual who is unable to carry a pregnancy, gestational surrogacy provides a path to parenthood. A gestational carrier carries the embryo created via IVF using either the couples genetic material and/or donor eggs or sperm.

Egg or Sperm Donation

Donor gametes can be used when a couple or individual does not have access to viable sperm or eggs. We are proud to have an active, in-house, donor egg program and partner with reputable egg banks, like MyEggBank, to ensure our intended parents receive the highest quality donor eggs possible. Additionally, we work with many trusted sperm donor banks.

Creating Inclusive, Affirming Spaces

At The Reproductive Medicine Group, inclusivity is at the foundation of our practice. We provide:

  • Gender-affirming care tailored to each patient’s identity and goals

  • Welcoming environments where diverse families are represented, respected, and celebrated

The Power of Community

Building a family as an LGBTQIA+ individual or couple can be deeply empowering—but it can also be emotional and complex. That’s why community matters. Whether it’s through support groups, LGBTQIA+ family-building events, or partnerships with local organizations, we’re committed to creating connection beyond the exam room.

Because no one should have to walk this path alone.

Your Family, Your Future

This Pride Month, we honor the many ways families are created—and the people who refuse to let anything stand in the way of their dreams. LGBTQIA+ families are redefining what parenthood looks like, and we’re here to ensure that their journeys are supported with respect, expertise, and heart.
